Overview

The CG Lamella Plate Clarifier™ (inclined plate settler) dramatically increases the effective settling area of a clarification tank without proportionally increasing the tank footprint. By installing closely-spaced inclined plates (at 55–60°) inside the settling zone, the total projected settling area is multiplied 8–15 times compared to an open tank of the same plan area. Particles only need to settle a short distance (50–100 mm between plates) before reaching a plate surface and sliding down to the sludge collection zone below. This enables hydraulic loading rates of 5–15 m³/m²/hr vs 1–2 m³/m²/hr for conventional open settling tanks — achieving the same clarification in a fraction of the space. The CG Lamella Clarifier can be supplied as a new standalone unit or as an internal retrofit pack for existing underperforming clarifiers.

Working Principle

Wastewater (after chemical coagulation/flocculation if required) enters the bottom zone below the inclined plate pack. The water rises upward through inclined plate channels. Suspended particles settle onto the upper surface of each inclined plate — since the settling distance to the nearest plate is only 50–100 mm, even slow-settling fine particles are captured. Settled particles and floc slide down the inclined surface under gravity into the sludge hopper below. Clarified water continues rising between the plates and overflows the top collection weir. Collected sludge is intermittently or continuously withdrawn by gravity or pump to dewatering.

Can lamella plates retrofit into existing clarifiers? +
Yes — CG supplies lamella plate packs as retrofit inserts for existing rectangular or circular clarifiers. The retrofit pack is installed inside the existing tank structure, immediately increasing effective settling area and allowing higher flows or clearer effluent without building a new clarifier.
What is the maintenance requirement? +
Lamella plates are essentially maintenance-free in normal operation — settled solids slide off the inclined surface by gravity. If biological growth or scaling occurs, a high-pressure water wash once or twice per year is sufficient. Plates do not require removal for cleaning in most applications.
