Sugar mill process water and distillery vinasse contain COD of 3,000–80,000 mg/L — far too high for conventional aerobic treatment. The solution is anaerobic pre-treatment (UASB or IC Reactor) which converts organic load into biogas energy, followed by aerobic polishing to reach NEQS discharge standards.
