Food Industry Effluent: High FOG, Variable Loads, and Seasonal Peaks

Food and beverage wastewater is highly variable — dairy processing produces fat-rich streams, meat processing generates high BOD and blood contamination, breweries produce high-COD yeast-laden effluent. The common challenge is high FOG that must be removed before biological treatment. SAF or DAF provides primary pre-treatment, followed by UASB (high-strength) or ABR/SBR for secondary biological treatment.

SAF removes >95% FOG from food processing streams. For high-strength streams (COD >1,500 mg/L), UASB provides anaerobic pre-treatment with biogas. SBR polishes to NEQS.
